What should the fans expect from the fight between Mayweather and Guerrero?
There are rumors of a fight between Robert Guerrero and Mayweather in coming May, and there are a number of critics, who feel that Guerrero does not stand a chance against Mayweather. Those, who are true fans of boxing, hold a different view. They feel that this time Robert Guewrrero has much better chance than Mayweather. This is not just about what the fans feel, as Money May Productions is also making a smart move by accepting Guerrero’s fight, and similarly Golden Boy Productions is also smart enough to let Guerrero challenge Mayweather. This makes it a well-deliberated match.
On comparing both the fighters, Guerrero does not look smaller than Mayweather, as they share almost the same size. Guerrero stands strong with 5’8 feet height and 70-inch reach. On the other hand, Mayweather stand tall with 5’8 as well as 72-inch reach. In the coming time, Guerrero might actually prove to be bigger as compared to Mayweather, as far as their frame is concerned. In fact, if you take a look at the 147 division, you will find that at 147, the top contenders are actually not even 147 yet. Last year, Victor Ortiz somehow made it to 140, and when he advanced to 147, he was the top challenger already and as being a heavy underdog, he also took away the WBC belt from Andre Berto.
There are many players, who are moving forward to 147 this year, and this includes Maidana, Brandon Rios, and Devone Alexander. As compared to these players, Robert Guerrero has moved up from 135, to 140 and now he is ready to take on 147 this year. This makes him a better contender as compared to other names included in the list. Many critics also judge Guerrero on the basis of his fight against Michael Katsidis, in which Guerrero’s performance was not very commendable.
From the business point of view, this match will be profitable as well, as this fight will attract a lot of attention because of two main points. The first is CincoDe Mayo as the venue of the match, and the second is Mayweather’s presence in the fight. Many fans still want to see their favorites Mayweather and Pacquiao fighting against each other, but this is the time for Guerrero to shine. Guerrero’s style does not match with Marquez, as Guerrero is much more than bigger and stronger. This will make this a great fight to look out for.
Lopez seems ready for the rematch with Salido
Normally, it has been seen that the winner of the previous boxing match emerge as a winner in rematches. The main reason behind this is the memory as well as the confidence gained from the last fight. No matter, whether the player has come with a full-proof game plan, but he still loss and some people predict the same result for Juan Manuel Lopez
(28 Ko’s, 31-1). He is going for a rematch with Orlando Salido (25 KO’s, 37-11-2) after his defeat in the previous match. Their match will be held in Puerto Rico and it is scheduled on March 10.
Bob Arum, Lopez’s promoter made a wrong move, when he matched Lopez with Salido. Actually, he thought that Lopez would be able to handle Salido similar to the way in which Yuriorkis Gamboa did seven months ago. However, the same did not happen with the case of Lopez, who was not able to match up to the power and skills of Mexican Salido. There were many Puerto Rican fans of Lopez, who thought that there was no need of stopping the fight, but some thinks that it was the right move, as Lopez was not able to tackle the blows of Salido.
Now, when Lopez is ready to take on Salido one more time to get back his title of WBO (World Boxing Organization) featherweight, it will be interesting to see what will happen in the coming match on March 10. Loyal fans of Lopez will definitely be there for the fight, but the result is pretty clear. Salido emphasized that he is a better fighter than Lopez, and a rematch is going to be a bad idea for Arum. Lopez will have to fight over six rounds devoid of gassing, if he wants to win the match against Salido.
The former champion is already preparing himself for the match against Salido, as Salido stopped him from winning the featherweight title in Bayamon. Bob Arum also discussed the official date of the match with Showtime, and it seems that Showtime wants the rematch. Lopez’s fans feel let down after the first match, and they hope to see their champion back on the ring as soon as possible. Lopez should take advantage of this rematch to regain his lost confidence and he even looks stronger and bigger as compared to his earlier fight with Salido. If he stick in some rounds, then there will be more chances of his winning the fight.
Dave Duncan clears his points for leaving the team
Dave Duncan, pitching coach of St. Louis Cardinals, is now set to take a leave from the team, as John Mozeliak, general manager of the team, announced it. He also mentioned that there is no fixed time for Duncan’s return as well. Duncan’s wife is fighting with brain cancer and he took a leave earlier when his wife underwent surgery back in August. Derek Lilliquist, who is presently the bench coach of the team, will replace Duncan as the pitching coach. Further, Dyer Miller is chosen for the position of bullpen coach. Earlier, Miller has acted as the pitching coordinator minor league for the team.
Duncan has been on the position of the pitching coach for Cardinals from 1995, when Tony La Russa was the manager of the team. Before this, he was a pitching coach for Chicago White Sox, Oakland A’s and Seattle Mariners from 1982 to 1994. After this announcement, Duncan also clarified two important points officially. The first point is that his wife is doing good, fighting with brain cancer, and then next point is that, he is not resigning because of the resignation of manager Tony La Russa. Duncan also said that he wanted to come back and coach the team in 2012, but the time is not right yet.
It is time, when the spring training is ahead, and with the Jeanine’s treatment going on presently, Duncan realized that she requires his primary attention. The process of Jeanine’s treatment is very complex and requires attention to even the smallest detail. With the kind of progress his wife is making, Duncan did not want to interrupt the process. He understood that he has to be there for her all the time, so that she can gain most benefits out of her treatment, which calls for a very close monitoring.
This makes it clear that Duncan is taking an open-ended leave from the team, and might not be back for 2012. His family and his wife is the first priority for him now, so he has backed off from the team. With Tony La Russa, Duncan coached the Cardinals for the last 33 seasons, which is a pretty long time and he has coached the last sixteen seasons with St. Louis. After the World Series Championship La Russa retired from the team, and many are considering this as a reason for Duncan’s leave. Duncan is still under a contract for the coming season, and the team is working on his replacement for the season.
